Seamless aluminum tubing is the preferred method of manufacturing thermal management solutions, making tubing for a variety of industries. Seam welding is a weak link in welding aluminum pipes. If the pipe is deformed or flattened, it can crack the seam at the weld. Any jointed pipe must also be tested for weld integrity. Seamless aluminum tubes are much stronger than their welded counterparts. Therefore, these seamless aluminum tubes are ideal for high pressure liquids and gases. According to ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), the working pressure of seamless aluminum pipe is 20% higher than that of welded pipe of the same material and size. Seamless pipe has excellent corrosion resistance because it does not have many potential defects inside it - these are often attributed to seams in seamed aluminum pipe. This seam can also have different ductility and may be susceptible to corrosion. After the metal is anodized, the weld creates a distinct seam. Therefore, for applications where the appearance of aluminum tubes is critical, seamless aluminum tubes are the way to go.

Seamless aluminum pipe has better pressure bearing capacity than seamed aluminum pipe. The texture of the seamless tube is relatively uniform. The chemical composition of the welded pipe will be slightly charred at the weld, so the mechanical properties are slightly worse but not much different. If used for pipe bending, seamless aluminum pipe is recommended. Welded pipes are prone to breakage. If the bend radius is larger, there is no problem. Seamless aluminum tubes are formed by perforation extrusion, while conventional aluminum tubes are generally formed by combined die extrusion. In production, the use of short rod, high temperature, slow extrusion process, especially the "three temperatures" must be well controlled.

The processing methods of aluminum ingots used for aluminum alloy seamless pipes and seamed aluminum alloy pipes are different. Seamless aluminum tubes use surface turns, and seam aluminum tubes use non-oxidative gauge incorporation.

In terms of mechanical properties, seamless aluminum tube products have uniform metal flow throughout, high dimensional accuracy, good fatigue resistance, consistent mechanical properties, and no layered structure. The metal flow of the seamed aluminum pipe product is not uniform, the mechanical properties are inconsistent, and the layered structure is prone to occur. On the whole, it is better to choose seamless aluminum tubes, but you also need to determine the choice according to your own situation.
